India is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) which is the government’s initiative to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence. On this occasion, the government of India is embarking on to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030 to promote a circular economy, reducing waste and environmental pollution wherein, the scrap metal recycling industry is playing an important role to achieve carbon neutralization targets and its benefits.
Looking at India’s depleting ore resources, the government is also more focussing on switching over from a linear to a circular economy model with the adoption of the 6R principles of Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, Recover, Redesign, and Remanufacture.
To mark the celebration of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) – CIRCULAR ECONOMY Campaign – 2023, 75 program which includes conferences, plant visits, and academics program has been organized by the Ministry of Mines and the Ministry of Steel, Government of India. The theme of this program is based on Sustainability/Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE).
Under this campaign, the Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI) & Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development & Design Centre (JNARDDC) are organizing the 9th Scrap Recycling (Ferrous & Non-Ferrous) and Waste Utilisation Drive under the aegis of the Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Steel “Sustainable & Circular Bharat: Towards Zero Waste in Metals Processing” on 4th July 2023 from 6.00 p.m. onwards at Hyatt Regency, Jaipur.
The state of Rajasthan has already established with the biggest ferrous and non-ferrous metal plants from the secondary routes.
Mr.R P Gupta, Director, Ministry of Mines will inaugurate the conference as our Chief Guest. Shri Subhash Kumar, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board ,MSME ,CBIC Customs and DGFT officials will grace the occasion as our Guest of Honour for this program.
During this 9th AKAM program, we are also organizing an exclusive two-days plant visit for Government officials from the Ministry of Steel, Ministry of Mines and Academic Students at Ferrous and Non-Ferrous plants includes at Bright Metals (I) Pvt Limited., Rajputana Industries Limited., Mangala Ispat Jaipur Limited, Ganganagar Vaahan Udhyog Pvt.Ltd and Gravita India Ltd (Recycling Technology Division).
This program is supported by Gravita India Ltd. Besides, ILZDA, Rajasthan Steel Chamber, Indian Institute of Foundrymen, Foundry Owners Association will be the industry associate partner for this programme.
The objective of this program is to create more awareness about Scrap Recycling and Waste Utilisation and showcase the best recycling practices of melting, scrap segregation, and processing, and understanding the challenging industry issues faced by the Metal Recycling industry based in West Bengal.
It also aims to create more awareness and adapt sustainability-driven changes to their
production and entire supply chain which involves all the stakeholders with a commitment to maximizing the contribution of the metal industry to a sustainable society.
This campaign emphasizes more to adopt new technologies to achieve zero carbon emissions and zero waste will enable us to achieve the sustainable development goal and
converge PM’s mission LiFE which is a movement for “mindful and deliberate utilization, instead of mindless and destructive consumption” to protect and preserve the environment.
We invite all the concerned industry stakeholders, Policymakers from central and state government Customs, Port, GST, Maharashtra State pollution control board, state investment board officials, Media, and Academics Institutions to make this the most successful campaign.
